Ecovillage

The search of a new way of living, healthier and more natural, has drawn the attention of many people on ecological communities, where the individual is supported both for his self-realization and to develop his relation towards the group.

One tries to build a relationship with agriculture based on natural cycles and the production of healthy food, to be in harmony with the environment.

One tries to live with others, based on the sharing of tasks and responsibilities, to break the chains of an alienating job, distorted relationships, intrusive consumption, but most of all to escape from the city return to nature.

That’s why a sustainable community is born, and it can be realized by 2 or more people, in the countryside, in a village or in an ecological cell in the city.

This community takes the name of ecovillage, place where people intentionally choose to live together adopting a communitarian way of living or, while still keeping the autonomy of private houses, they live a cooperative life, or they choose to share some spaces and services, carrying out activities like cohousing. In each case the components take part to the designing of the community that takes an ecological orientation.

The structures of the ecovillage consists of dismissed agricultural enterprises that are recovered and restarted to product again or by an aggregation of houses and shared places. Activities of different kind are carried out: agricultural, rearing, educational, dedicated to the care of the person and to the physical and spiritual wellness, but also to the hospitality. Here city and countryside meet more easily and one begins to take care of the countryside, inventing a virtuous model, a sort of laboratory that talks about how the planet has to be fed and inhabited in a sustainable way. Buildings need to be recovered with the existing resources, with local natural materials: clay bricks, insulating cork panels or sheep wool; in harmony with the climate , in order to enhance the solar thermal energy gain in the cold season and to protect the buildings from overheating in the warm season. The building’s exposure has to allow the environment’s natural lighting and the cooling and ventilation without energy consumption. A rainwater harvesting system has to be realized to be reused for wc and irrigation, and green has to be designed so that it helps us to have a more comfortable micro-climate. Clean energy, that makes the enterprise independent, can be obtained through photovoltaic and micro aeolian systems, while solar collectors allow to cover all the warm water requirement. By doing so a new living and cultivating way is born and it incorporates architecture and agriculture in the environment and landscape, where earth, energy, vegetation and water are elements that concur in making wellness and harmony for everyone.
